  1. In accordance with current practice and adopted echomail procedure 
  2. within Fidonet, the following rules have been established for the 
  3. Real Estate Echo.  The following rules will be posted periodically
  4. in the echo.
  5.  
  6. The purpose of the rules is quite simply to make sure the messages 
  7. conform to Fidonet standards, keep the threads on topic, and to 
  8. insure orderly distribution without causing duplicate message loops.
  9.  
  10. 1.  Only real names are allowed in this conference.  Handles, nick-
  11.     names, etc. are not permitted.  This is an echo dedicated to 
  12.     serious topics and such handles as "Asian Warrior", "Satan's Right 
  13.     Hand", and "The Avenger" have no place here.  Short forms of your 
  14.     first name such as Bob, Al, Joe, etc. are not considered nick- 
  15.     names.

  17. 2.  Off topic messages should be ignored.  The Moderator or his 
  18.     Co-Moderator will respond to them directly.  Answers by others 
  19.     just tend to perpetuate themselves and lead the threads astray.

  21. 3.  Personal attacks (commonly called flames) are not permitted under 
  22.     any circumstances.  In addition to keeping the messages on topic, 
  23.     we intend to keep things friendly.  It is absolutely permitted 
  24.     and encouraged to disagree.  However, it must be done in a 
  25.     friendly manner.  It is particularly necessary for the profes-
  26.     sionals among us to remember that this echo is for *everyone*. 
  27.     A condescending manner is to be avoided at all costs.  Please try 
  28.     to remember how much you had to learn at one time.

  30. 4.  This echo is available to any Fidonet BBS which wants to carry it,
  31.     and we hope they all will.  However, at this time it may not be 
  32.     passed out of Fidonet without the explicit permission of the 
  33.     Moderator.  Also, it should only be passed to or from your net 
  34.     echomail hub unless he asks you to pass it on to another bbs in 
  35.     your net.

  37. 5.  Sysops (system operators) from throughout the country spend their own
  38.     hard-earned $$$ to make these echos available for your pleasure and
  39.     education.  Therefore, advertisements of any kind, and in particular,
  40.     *COMMERCIAL_ADVERTISEMENTS* are not in good taste and are *TABOO*.
  41.     It is totally unfair to ask these sysops to pay your advertising
  42.     costs, and your cooperation here is most certainly expected.

  44. 6.  That's all the rules folks.  They are really just common sense 
  45.     and courtesy.  Please live somewhere near if not within them and 
  46.     all will be well.  However, we must enforce them if they are 
  47.     violated.
